Canada’s first citywide smart grid boosts energy efficiency and grid resilience
The Sault Smart Grid in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada, is the first citywide smart grid in the country developed by PUC Services. The smart grid integrates various technologies to self-monitor and self-correct, enhancing energy efficiency and grid resilience. By utilizing advanced systems like an Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), the smart grid has improved outage management, power quality, and energy savings. The project has received industry recognition and has led to decreased outages, energy savings, and improved customer communications. It also allows for the integration of distributed energy resources and promotes sustainability.
